The European Union in its Sixth Environment Action Programme, ‘Our Future, Our Choice’, defines the objectives and priorities of European environmental policy up to 2010 and beyond and describes the measures to be taken to help implement its sustainable development strategy. The Programme recognises that meeting the challenges requires looking beyond a strictly legislative approach and taking a strategic approach such as integrating environmental concerns into other policies, taking account of the environment in land use planning, the promotion of green procurement and improving the equality of information on the environment.
